1 min read

A person died after a “confrontation” with police led to gunfire at a Richmond residence on Wednesday morning.

The incident began at 9 a.m. when the police were serving a search warrant on Sanderling Island in Point Richmond.

The search warrant was in connection to an incident where a gun was fired on Sunday night.

Police say the detectives encountered an individual who they say was armed with a gun inside the residence.

A “confrontation” occurred between the police and the individual. The individual was shot and he was pronounced dead of his injuries at the scene.

Richmond police also discovered possible live explosives inside the home.

Both officers involved in the shooting have been put on paid administrative leave. The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office will be investigating this incident along with Richmond Homicide Detectives, per department protocol.
