1 of 5 Oakland homicide victims identified

Phil Norawong, 44, was out with two friends in Oakland’s Chinatown and as he was leaving the restaurant, was shot.

Norawong died at a hospital hours after he was shot Sunday.

According to Oakland Police Department Deputy Chief Drennon Lindsey, two “persons of interest” were taken into custody.

Norawong was one of the five victims who was killed in a series of Oakland homicides since Friday night.

Detectives have not even finished processing one homicide scene when they heard gunshots ring out two blocks away.

“Officers heard shots being fired in the distance two blocks away,” Lindsey said, and they found a San Francisco woman dying on the street.

Investigators said none of the five killings were connected, or gang-related.

“We do not believe these shootings or homicides are connected. We don’t have any linkages,” Lindsey said. The shootings appeared to stem from “conflicts and disputes (that) got out of hand and people lost their lives,” Lindsey said.
