15-month-old hit by gunfire in attempted robbery in Oakland

A 15-month-old child was struck by gunfire in an attempted robbery in Oakland Tuesday afternoon. 

According to the Oakland Police Department, the incident happened at the 800 block of Trestle Glen Road near Lakeshore shortly before 11 a.m.

Officers learned that the two suspects approached the victim and the child, demanding their belongings. One of the suspects possessed a firearm. 

Police said the firearm was discharged during the incident, and the child suffered shrapnel injuries. 

First responders and paramedics with the Oakland Fire Department responded and treated the child. The young victim was taken to the hospital and is reportedly stable. 

An investigation into the incident is active, police said.
