A 16-year-old boy died on Saturday in a park with several gunshot wounds.

A juvenile who was in possession of a loaded firearm was later detained.

According to Antioch police, they dispatched officers after receiving numerous 911 calls reporting multiple gunshots being fired at Williamson Ranch Park in the 5000 block of Lone Tree Way.

Witnesses called the police to report a subject running from the park and entering the nearby Walmart store. They quickly located the individual, who was determined to be a juvenile and was carrying a loaded firearm.

At the park, officers found a 16-year-old boy suffering several gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

A dark-colored sedan was seen leaving the park’s parking lot at high speed.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim and the individual detained at Walmart arrived together to meet the sedan’s occupants. Shortly after, multiple shots were fired from or around the sedan.

Presently, detectives are interviewing witnesses and residents in the area and are working to identify any suspects or persons of interest. Police said this is an active investigation.
