2 Santa Clara county jail inmates found unconscious in bathroom; 1 dies in hospital

1 min read

Officials from the Santa Clara county said that one of the two inmates found unconscious in Milpitas’ Elmwood Correctional Facility bathroom has died.

The other inmate is in a safe condition and seeking treatment at a hospital, officials said.

The two were found by jail deputies at 4:11 a.m. Thursday. Deputies performed CPR to save the two, who are both males aged 32 and 40. The Sheriff’s office said they were brought to a hospital.

No information regarding the inmates’ identities and the cause of their unresponsiveness was released yet.

The Santa Clara police booked the 32-year-old man into detention last April 9 over the alleged possession of stolen vehicle. He also had outstanding warrants.

The 40-year-old, meanwhile, was booked last May 7 by the Sheriff’s Office over a court remand released by a judge, KRON4 reported.

As the standard protocol dictates, a combined investigation regarding the case will be conducted by the District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office.
