The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is urging the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office to charge three teens for homicide as adults.

The teens were arrested in connection to killing a fourth teen.

On October 8, 2023, at around 10:45 p.m., Alameda County deputies and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to a report of a carjacking and possible shooting.

At the scene, located at an apartment complex on Miramar Avenue in Unincorporated San Leandro, deputies found Leandro Iquite, 18, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation and leads uncover one of the suspects as Yefry Aguilar Rubio, 18. Rubio was 17 when the incident happened and he turned 18 the same month.

It was also determined that Rubio’s 17-year-old girlfriend and her 16-year-old brother were involved in the murder.

Evidence showed that Rubio and his girlfriend began discussing harming Iquite back in June and that they lured the victim from Redwood City, where they all lived, to San Leandro where they allegedly killed him.

On December 13, search and arrest warrants were served at the suspects’ Redwood City residences.

Evidence related to the homicide was also found there.
