Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex Criticized For Pricey Apparel in Fundraising Website

1 min read

The New York Post criticized New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over the costs of merchandise that the official was selling on her fundraising website.

The congresswoman has put up several items for sale, including sweatshirts, T-shirts, and other apparel that bear slogans. The writings include “Abolish ICE,” Tax the rich,” and “Drink water & don’t be racist.” However, many people have argued that the items’ price tags are sometimes ludicrous, reaching up to $60 each.

The Post wrote that several Twitter users were caught by surprise with the costs of the items and the hypocrisy of an anti-capitalism legislator making her own clothing line. It also noted that the fundraising effort was premature due to the recent success in staving off a challenge to her campaign that garnered $17.3 million in donations.

On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez responded to criticisms by saying, “Republicans are freaking out [because] we don’t use slave-wage labor for merch that funds grassroots organizing.” She noted that their merchandise was made in the United States, unlike Trump’s, News Max reported.
