San Diego Police released a photograph of an “armed and dangerous” teenager suspected of murdering a 28-year-old man in the El Cerrito neighborhood.

Armed and dangerous

On Saturday, witnesses reported a possible shooting to the San Diego Police Communications Center. The incident occurred just outside a residence located in the 5700 block of El Cajon Boulevard.

San Diego Police Department’s homicide unit’s Lieutenant Matt Hobbs said, “When patrol officers arrived on the scene, they located a man on a second-floor landing with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. The officers moved the man to a safe location and began CPR.”

Dobbs said officers later transported the victim to a local hospital to receive treatment, but medical professionals pronounced him dead due to his injuries. He said, “It is very early in the investigation, and little is known about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. We do know the victim had been in an altercation with a white male suspect who fled the scene. The victim has been identified, but his name is not being released at this time.”

Police later identified a potential suspect, 18-year-old Joseph Mehlenbacher, and said he was armed and dangerous. Dobbs said the teenager was last seen driving his white 2002 Honda Accord with California plate number 8CJY250, Fox5 San Diego reported.
