A California Department of Transportation employee in San Bernardino discovered a mutilated human foot in the center median of a freeway on Monday.
Authorities said the individual found what appeared to be a person’s right foot on the 210 Freeway in San Bernardino County. The man was discovered the foot on the eastbound side of the freeway at around 9:13 a.m. while conducting routine maintenance with his crew.
Bare Foot
The California Highway Patrol later investigated the area where the foot was found but discovered nothing else. The Coroner’s Office of San Bernardino took possession of the foot. They said it had no identifying information and seemed to have been in the area for quite some time.
“It did not look like a fresh injury. It could have been several days or longer. It was decomposing,” California Highway Patrol Sgt. B. Robinson said, Fox13 Memphis reported.
Ivan Sandoval, a California Highway Patrol officer, said the owner of the foot appeared to be a woman. They said there were no patients in nearby hospitals reported with a missing foot.
The gruesome discovery is not the first time for any California Department of Transportation employee. A snowplow driver discovered the bodies of a man and a woman in November 2020 while clearing a stretch of highway near Yosemite.
