CHP officer injured by chain crash caused by suspected DUI driver

A suspected DUI driver was believed to be the cause of a chain crash that injured a California Highway Patrol Officer. 

According to CHP Contra Costa station, around 8:22 p.m., an officer with CHP Contra Costa was conducting a stop on a Chevrolet on southbound State Route 242. 

A Mercedes heading south veered off the road and hit the back of the parked Chevrolet. The impact of the crash caused the Chevrolet to hit the CHP officer. 

The officer was transported to the local hospital for his injuries. 

The driver of the Mercedes was not injured but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
