1 min read

Several San Pablo residents are ordered to evacuate due to a hazardous materials incident on Wednesday.

The evacuation order is for the area between Giant Road, Miner Avenue, 11th Street, and Palmer Avenue.

Residents in these areas are being told to leave immediately.

An evacuation center is being set up at the Contra Costa Community College Gym at 2600 Mission Bell Drive parking lot 6.

The city advises to only bring essential items and pets must be in a carrier or on a leash.

According to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, hazardous materials were found in the shed of a backyard.

It is unclear what exactly the materials are but fire crews deemed they are possibly explosive.

Hundreds of boxes, containing known and unknown materials, were reportedly found.

Fire and police units are on the scene, and people are being advised to use alternate routes and avoid the area.
