Three people were killed and two were hospitalized after a multi vehicle fatal collision last Saturday just after midnight. The crash which involved five big-rig trucks and five other vehicles on Highway 99 between Biggs East Highway and Ord Ranch Road led to a hard closure at Biggs East Highway/SR-99 and Spruce and SR-99.

California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire immediately responded to the scene while the Major Accident Investigation Team from Sacramento will handle the investigation. Oroville CHP has also advised drivers to use alternate routes until Saturday afternoon.

CHP also advised drivers to be careful as the visibility in the Sacramento Valley was low after Friday’s rain which may have considerably contributed to the accident. According to Karleisa Rogacheski, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said that, after the rain and lingering moisture, low clouds produced from periods of clearing throughout the night which caused overcast skies.
