One died after being shot by Hayward police Wednesday night.
According to the Hayward Police Department, at the time of the shooting, the man was armed with a BB gun.
The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. off City Center Drive.
A witness had reported that a man pointed a firearm at two females in a vehicle. Three officers responded and the man allegedly pointed the firearm at them.
Two of the officers opened fire on the man, according to Acting Police Chief Bryan Matthews.
The man died and his identity has not been released.
According to Matthews, the officers were not injured and a BB gun that matched the description of the witness was found at the scene.
“Any loss of life is tragic and last night’s incident is no exception,” Matthews said at a news conference Thursday.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, Hayward PD, and an independent consultant are investigating the case, according to police.
All three officers are believed to have had body-worn cameras on at the time of the shooting.
