Homicide in Downtown Petaluma, suspect on the run

An investigation is underway, and police are searching for information about a homicide in Downtown Petaluma Sunday morning. 

According to a press release from the Petaluma Police Department, shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, police received a call from someone who claimed his friend had been assaulted with a baseball bat in Downtown Petaluma. When an officer responded to the area, they found a man on the road who appeared to have been assaulted. 

The officer, with the Petaluma Fire Department paramedics, gave the man medical assistance, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is still under investigation, and the victim’s name has yet to be disclosed. 

PPD detectives began interviewing the witness and searched for surveillance videos from the businesses nearby. They believe that the suspect may have fled the scene in a vehicle.
