San Diego County police officers continue investigation after hikers discover human remains spread across the Santee Trail.

On Wednesday, the San Diego Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) said the report came from the hikers shortly after 4:00 p.m. “A skull popped up and a spine and everything else so – it was kind of spread out. Skull’s kind of near a bunch of ribs and spine and lower jaws,” Ryley Becker, one of the hikers, said.

“A few feet away, and there’s some leg bones across a bush 10 feet over or so,” another hiker, Travis Raszkowski, said. However, police said they have not yet found any information as to who the victim was or how they died.

“The Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded and has assumed the responsibility of the investigation. The Homicide Unit will coordinate with the Medical Examiner’s Office, who will ultimately be responsible for identifying the remains and determining cause and manner of death,” said the SDSO.

Authorities are also asking the public for any information regarding the incident that could lead to the identification of the victim and their manner of death, the New York Daily News reported.
