Hundreds gather on Golden Gate Bridge to support Iranians

Hundreds of people gather across the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday to show support for the people of Iran.

The demonstration is to draw public attention to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Earlier this month, Amini was detained by the Iranian morality police for improperly wearing a headscarf. She later on collapsed and died in custody three days later.

Since Amini’s death, the people of Iran have taken to the streets in protest. Some were severely beaten as a result. On Thursday, the United States imposed sanctions on Iranian morality police and other governmental leaders after reports of the death of nine protestors.

The human chain on Golden Gate Bridge is not the only group showing their support for Iran this weekend. On Sunday afternoon, Bay Area Iranian Americans gathered in support of Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

In London, people protested in front of the Iranian embassy. Reports stated that the protests turned violent and police were injured.
