The famed American performer Jennifer Lopez is invading Netflix. She already inked a deal with the content platform to come up with a diversified space of undertakings giving opportunity to female artists.
The multi-year agreement was made with her production company, Nuyorican Production, which will allow Lopez along with her production colleagues, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, guide female-driven projects.
“I am excited to announce my new partnership with Netflix,” the performer announced in a statement. “Elaine, Benny and I believe there is no better home for us than a forward leaning content creation company that seeks to defy conventional wisdom and directly market to the millions across the globe who no longer view art and entertainment with the kind of boundaries and limitations of the past.”
She said that she looks “forward to getting to work right away” on the fresh venture. Among the projects are The Mother and The Cipher where Lopez will play as the star.
Currently, Lopez is under training for starring in The Mother. He will take the lead role of being an assassin who appears to pass her skills to her daughter, primarily to kill others for survival. Niki Caro, the director of Mulan’s live action remake, will also be the one directing The Mother.
The Cipher, on the other hand, will feature Lopez as the lead actress who will carry the character of FBI Agent Nina Guerrero. The film will be based on the novel of Isabella Maldonado, telling the story of a serial killer caught in a stream of mysterious online hints.
“Jennifer is a singular talent whose creativity and vision have captivated audiences and inspired the next generation around the world,” Netflix Head of Global TV, said. “For years she and the team at Nuyorican have brought a distinctive voice to entertainment, and I’m looking forward to working with her and the team to create new series for our members to love.”
