The balance between finding, winning and prosecuting will vary with experience and between projects. * You will plan your work, and on some projects, direct and coordinate the activities of engineers and technicians, to ensure that technical goals and/or objectives are accomplished, and budgets and schedules are met, all in a multidisciplinary environment. * You will gain clients’ acceptance and earn their trust and confidence in your technical and project work. * You will be required to participate in business development activities, client interviews and presentations as applicable. * You will be encouraged to embrace industry participation per our values. Qualifications: * Ideally you currently live, or want to relocate to, somewhere near an existing McMillen Jacobs Associates office in the US. You will be willing to travel within the USA and Canada to support projects. * You will be highly capable in the fields of underground ventilation and fire safety, with experience in the industry. Your skills will likely already have led to contributions at leading conferences or in industry bodies or journals. * A base degree in mechanical or aeronautical (aerodynamic) engineering is required, as the thermodynamics, chemistry and fluid dynamics of ventilation and fires must be a core skill. * A master’s degree or a PhD would be well regarded. * You need to have a Mechanical Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state. * You must be highly competent in the use of analytic tools which, in order of importance are: brain; pencil and paper; spreadsheet; and modelling software. * We highly regard expertise at 1-D packages (IDA Tunnel or perhaps SES), and CFD packages (FDS or Fluent). * The role requires strong communication (both oral and written), analytical and leadership skills. * Project management, staff management and client interaction experience are expected, commensurate with your level of technical experience. ABOUT SAMJ LLC SAMJ LLC is a jointly held company bringing together in the US, the tunnel ventilation and underground fire safety expertise of Stacey Agnew Pty Ltd, and the underground structures knowledge and capability of McMillen Jacobs Associates. We provide design, advice and technical support to government and private clients on ventilation and safety in road and rail tunnels, rail and bus stations, and utility tunnels. Our work also takes us into some other interesting areas such as heat stress on livestock transport vessels and forensic investigations of fires and explosions. In an underground infrastructure market replete with mega-consultancies, we respond to the client’s needs by being responsive and without unnecessary inertia. We value and are at the forefront of technical thinking in our industry, often produce technical papers, and are invited to present at conferences and seminars. Stacey Agnew Directors serve on technical committees for all the key global tunnel ventilation and fire safety conferences. McMillen Jacobs similarly is at the forefront of tunnelling and major structures engineering and strives to advance the industry through innovations in contracting practices, engineering and construction methods, and tunnel asset management.
