Kroger, the grocery retail company announces the 2020 list of 10 trending foods. This was based on the year-over-year sales growth data coming from the company’s 2800+ stores all over the country.
Owning about two dozen supermarkets all over the country, Kroger is undeniably the largest supermarket company in America, as said by Food and Wine. Kroger owns not only its own supermarket chain, but also Ralphs, Dillons, Baker’s, Fry’s, and Smiths’ supermarkets. Almost all of the supermarket that has a person’s name in their title are owned by Kroger.
Stuart Aitken, Kroger’s chief merchant, states that the top 10 trending list reflects how the daily American consumers’ habits changed as we shifted to a post-pandemic, home-oriented lifestyle.
Here is the list of the food products that caused the largest sales growth starting 2019 till 2020.
- Zero-calorie soft drinks
- Four-cheese blend shredded cheese
- Flavored potato chips
- Sauvignon blanc wine
- Heavy whipping cream
- Fresh burger patties
- Artisan bread and buns
- Bulk coffee pods
- Variety bags of chocolate
- Black forest ham
Aitken, further adds that “As many of our customers transitioned to working from home and virtual schoolrooms this year, coffee, fresh deli meat and artisan bread emerged as go-to staples for elevated breakfast and lunch routines, while zero-calorie soft drinks, unique potato chip flavors, wine and chocolate stood out as comfort-food favorites.”
