Singer-songwriter Lorde’s new track “Solar Power” is a burst of summer sunshine.

On June 10, Lorde dropped the music video for “Solar Power” as she returns after a break. She has not released an album since the ‘Melodrama’ in 2017.

The new video shows the New Zealand artist wearing a yellow crop top paired with a skirt. She is embracing the summer vibes on the beach with a bunch of bohemian chics.

The upbeat song seems to bid goodbye to Lorde’s usual dark melody. Its lyrics goes: “My cheeks in high color, overripe peaches / No shirt, no shoes, only my features / My boy behind me, he’s taking pictures / Lead the boys and girls onto the beaches / Come one, come all, I’ll tell you my secrets / I’m kinda like a prettier Jesus.”

The artist, apart from the release of the new video, also shared to her fans about her fresh take through an email newsletter. Lorde shed light on how she came up with the song, saying she wrote it along with Jack Antonoff, her longtime producer. She said “Solar Power” is about the “infectious, flirtatious summer energy that takes hold of all of us,” saying that she will carry the tag “Solar Power” for her new album.

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” she said. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out and tune in. This is what came through.”

For years, Lorde’s third album was impending.

Her return to the music world was hinted at by Barcelona’s music festival, Primavera Sound, in May. It said that Lorde will become their performer next year.
