A man from California, 67, has fallen 25 feet down the Wailua Falls in Kauai, a famous hiking trail, according to the County of Kauai.

Initial reports said the victim and his family attempted to hike from the parking lot to the falls on Friday.

He slept and fell around 25 feet off the trail.

The county said the man seemed to have incurred injuries in the head.

First responders arrived at the location about one and a half hours following the 911 call. They used a multipurpose device hauling system to recover the victim, provided initial treatment at the location and brought him to a local hospital.

The man’s current condition was not yet determined.

Lying at the south end of the Wailua River, Wailua Falls descends into a couple of streams that fall 80 feet below. A 3-mile out-and-back short trail can be seen from the roadside. It runs from the parking lot up to the stream’s top, SFGate reported.

The trail can  “be very dangerous and tricky if it’s raining, as it would be extremely muddy and slippery,” AllTrails said, adding that the trail is “very steep and demanding, with large roots, rocks, and mud nearly all the time.”

The falls is featured at the opening credits of the television show “Fantasy Island” and is best recognized for its visual aspect.
