A man tried to kidnap a toddler and assaulted the child’s mother at a bus stop in Oakland. The attack was caught on a surveillance camera.

Oakland police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the man who tried to kidnap a 2-year-old at the AC Transit Bus platform at High Street and International Boulevard shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to family members, the man came up to them, threatened them, and tried to kidnap the toddler. After several unsuccessful attempts, the man began assaulting the toddler’s mother until someone came to her aid.

The attacker is described as a Hispanic man aged between 40 and 50, about five-foot-ten, weighing around 280 pounds, and wearing a blue hat, a red and blue shirt, and black pants.

Oakland police urged anyone who recognizes the person in the surveillance image to contact the OPD Special Victims Unit at (510) 238-3641 or the department’s tip line at (510) 238-7950.
