A Tesla with two occupants crashed on a tree after the vehicle hurtles off the lane, leaving one dead.

According to the California Highway Patrol, on Saturday around 3:43 p.m., a 2023 Tesla 3 was running at high speed, heading south on San Felipe Road. The driver failed to navigate a turn and collided with a tree. The vehicle continued to run southbound, overturning several times before coming to rest by hitting a second tree.

According to the CHP incident report, the 22-year-old driver was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries from the crash. The 24-year-old passenger was wearing a seatbelt and managed to climb out of the car after the crash. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

CHP says alcohol or drugs can be a factor in the collision.

The collision is still being investigated, and CHP is asking for witnesses or anyone who has information about the crash to contact the San Jose CHP office at 408-961-0900.
