44-year-old Kanye West wants to make his name short.
Going by his biological name Kanye Omari West, the power rapper on Tuesday has submitted the needed documents to Los Angeles Superior Court as he asked to formally change his name to Ye.
West, who did not propose any change in middle or his last name, has used the nickname Ye for several years.
The date specified on the documents was August 11. It, however, was not recognized in the court system until Tuesday. The rapper said in the documents that the name change is due to “personal reasons”.
Fox News has reached out to the West’s representative for comment but they have given no response yet.
The change must be approved by a judge to make it official.
In 2018, the power rapper already expressed his desire to have his name changed. He tweeted “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.” In the same year, his album was entitled “Ye”.
Apart from making his name shorter, the West also said in interviews that the name Ye is mentioned throughout the Bible.
The rap icon is now halfway in a spit with Kim Kardashian West, who filed for divorce from West in February. The American socialite has not asked to return back her name to Kardashian. The two have four children who are all using the West surname.
“Donda”, West’s upcoming album, is set to be released this month. The power rapper has held several listening parties over the last weeks to make the album known.
