1 min read

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Jurupa Valley Thursday afternoon. The suspect was killed after a car chase with law enforcement.

The incident occurred before 2:45 p.m. on the 3900 block of Golden West Avenue.

According to Chris Barajas, mayor of Jurupa Valley,  the deputy died from his injuries.

“My thoughts are with his family and all our law enforcement community,” Barajas wrote on social media.

Dozens of law enforcement vehicles pursued a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado southbound on the 15 Freeway.

A video shows multiple law enforcement vehicles surrounding the pickup, which crashed onto the shoulder of the freeway.

Bullet holes can be seen on the vehicle’s windshield.

Barajas later confirmed that the suspect in the shooting was deceased.

Both the deputy and suspected killer’s identity has not been released at this time.
