San Francisco Man Pepper Sprays Reporter, Security Guard in Attempted Robbery

1 min read

A San Francisco man pepper-sprayed and attempted to rob a TV news reporter who was filming a story with his security guard in the city’s Golden Gate Park on Wednesday, said the San Francisco Police Department.

Attempted Robbery

Authorities said the victims were “incapacitated” when the suspect sprayed them with a chemical they believed was pepper spray. Afterwards, the criminal grabbed the reporter’s camera and fled towards a getaway vehicle where his colleague was waiting.

While he was running towards the car, he unintentionally dropped the camera he stole before proceeding to flee the scene. The security guard allegedly chased after the suspect but was hit by the speeding vehicle, the San Francisco Gate reported.

Police revealed the incident took place near Stow Lake at around 1:18 p.m. Officers and medical professionals responded and treated the victims for non-life-threatening injuries. The SFPD is asking the public for help in identifying the suspects and their getaway car. “At this time we do not have suspect descriptions to provide for this active investigation,” officials said.
