1 min read

Tourists in San Francisco fought back against a car break-in on Monday at the Moraga Steps in the Inner Sunset.

The group, who came from Puerto Rico, successfully chased down the robbers downhill. However, the suspects were able to flee inside a getaway car parked near the scene of the crime.

Video footage captured the incident, showing how a woman with the group opened one of the vehicle’s doors as one of the suspects got in the getaway car. The woman then chases down another one of the suspects running on the sidewalk. However, she trips and falls, as the rest of her group fails to catch the individual.

The two suspects could be seen smashing the vehicle’s windows in the video footage. They were able to steal a backpack that belonged to the group.

San Francisco police said that one of the victims was able to hold onto the getaway car as it was fleeing. However, one of the suspects inside the vehicle held a gun in her face, scaring her away. Authorities said the victim was later treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Crime data from the SFPD showed that compared to last year, larceny-theft has decreased by more than 43%. However, it also showed that burglaries have jumped by nearly 50%, the San Francisco Gate reported.
