1 min read

A San Jose man was announced dead after an unidentified suspect shot him at a new high-rise downtown called “The Grad” on Saturday near San Jose State University, the city’s police department said.

Unprovoked Attack

Police said the crime occurred at 88 E. San Carlos St. where witnesses reported hearing gunshots at about 11:37 a.m. on Saturday. Officers investigated the scene of the crime hours after the initial reports, a Twitter post by the San Jose Police Department said.

The department uploaded a tweet shortly after 6:00 p.m., saying the male victim died due to his wounds. Authorities recorded the incident as the 14th homicide in the city since the beginning of the year.

The city’s 13th homicide in 2021 was a motorcyclist attacking a pedestrian using his vehicle on April 8 on First Street. The suspect struck the victim near the airport and quickly fled the scene afterward. Authorities announced the death of the pedestrian shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Police are urging the public to report any information that could lead to the identification of the suspect. Witnesses who wish to remain anonymous can report to the Crime Stoppers hotline, NBC Bay Area reported.
