Human skeletal remains were discovered near a creek in a remote area of Fairfield Tuesday.
According to the Fairfield Police Department, a community member found the remains and notified the police.
Police said the remains appear to be those of an adult. There is no immediate indication of foul play.
Fairfield PD Investigations Division detectives will work to identify the decedent and determine a cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
