Suspect arrested after a 3-hour standoff in Coliseum BART station

The Coliseum BART station was shut down on Sunday afternoon because of a standoff. 

According to the police, an hours-long standoff that involved the deployment of gas closed down BART stations at 7200 San Leandro Street. It reopened around 7 p.m. 

According to the San Leandro Police Department, the suspect in the standoff was a driver who barricaded himself inside his vehicle. He is connected to an armed robbery at a business on the 1000 block of MacArthur Boulevard in San Leandro. 

Around 2 p.m., officers spotted the suspect driving a silver Hyundai two-door hatchback near Washington Avenue. SLPD tried to stop him, but he rammed into a police car and escaped. 

The Hyundai was reported stolen as officers pursued the suspect. The chase ended near Coliseum Bart station, where the standoff began. 

The standoff lasted over three hours, and the suspect was eventually arrested around 7 p.m. 

Police did not identify the arrested suspect.
