Two dead after car steers down embankment near Pleasanton

Two dead and six were injured after a crash Monday afternoon on the southbound 680 near Sunol Boulevard. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:36 p.m. when the car steered off the road near the Sunol and Castlewood Drive exits and fell down an embankment about 20 feet. 

There were eight people inside the car, including two children. 

Two adults died on the scene and two other adults were taken to the hospital with major injuries. The others, including the children, suffered minor injuries. 

The crash’s cause is unknown and under investigation. 

The Livermore and Pleasanton police departments are investigating along with the CHP.
