Two people were stabbed and killed on Sunday outside the Grace Baptist Church in San Jose, California, according to police reports.
The San Jose Police Department released a statement on Twitter confirming the news. An initial investigation showed there was no church service in progress at the time of the killing. The victims were said to be “unhoused individuals” who were invited into the church due to the cold season.
“Units are currently at the scene of a possible stabbing at the Grace Baptist Church located at 484 E San Fernando St. This is an active scene, please avoid the area,” the tweet read.
“For clarification, no church services were being conducted at the time of the stabbing. Unhoused individuals were brought into the church to get them out of the cold,” the San Jose Police Department added.
San Jose police officers arrived on the scene about 8:45 p.m. Sunday after they received reports of the stabbing near the San Jose State University. Authorities have yet to release more information about the crime, San Francisco Gate reported.
