Authorities reported a casualty in Sunday night’s road accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Martinez.

Officers of the Contra Costa California Highway Patrol were informed of the collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on southbound I-680, north of Marina Vista just before 8:00 in the evening.

A pedestrian, for undetermined reasons at the time of the accident, was within the roadway of southbound I-680 while a white Toyota sedan came.

Officials said the driver of the vehicle hit the pedestrian, who was declared dead at the location.

There is no available information yet on the pedestrian’s identity.

Police said the Toyota’s driver along with other people in the car were unharmed. They stayed on the scene and helped with the probe.

Investigation is underway regarding the case, as reported by KRON4. The Contra Costa CHP in Martinez opens its hotline at (925) 646-4980 for anyone who has information regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, a separate road accident in San Mateo County sent a teen driver to the hospital for sustaining major injuries after they hit a tree near San Gregorio on Sunday.

The CHP said the single-vehicle accident involved a 17-year-old driver operating a black 2001 GMC 2500 truck along the called San Gregorio Road at about 1:30 in the morning.

The vehicle veered off the route and smashed into a tree. The teenager managed to get out of the truck and was brought to the hospital by responding crews. No other passenger was in the truck, according to the CHP, KRON4 reported.

The patrol group said that the investigation will continue, but alcohol or drugs is not believed to play a factor in the crash.
