Woman who crashed with kid in car was DUI: police

A Sebastopol woman who crashed into a light pole with her two-year-old son in the backseat was under the influence of prescription medication. 

According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, the solo vehicle crash happened at Highway 12 and South Wright Road in Santa Rosa at 2:30 p.m.

Witness reports say that a white Audi SUV was heading east on Highway 12 and crashed head-on into a light pole. 

The driver, Melanie Dellard, 40, was driving with her two-year-old son in the backseat. Both were transported to the hospital with significant injuries. 

A DUI investigation was launched and it was determined that Dellard was driving under the influence of prescription medication. 

According to police, Dellard and her son suffered significant but not life-threatening injuries. 

Dellard was arrested for felony driving under the influence, causing injury to another.
