Zillow names South Lake Tahoe as most popular 2021 destination in the country

South Lake Tahoe, known as a top vacation spot in the Bay Area, was declared as the most popular place by Zillow for this year, SFGATE reported.

Apart from its popularity in general, the vacation destination also landed on the top spot of Zillow’s real estate lists of “most popular small town” as well as “most popular vacation town.”

The list was shared for the first time on the marketplace. Zillow made the analysis based on the October 2020 to November 2021 data on page views per listing, home values, and affordability with progress potential.

Zillow said that South Lake Tahoe gives out a “small-town vibe”, which contributed to its high desirability, as well as its location which can be reached through short drives from and to the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Reno, Nev.

The real estate marketplace said South Lake Tahoe gathered a total of 5, 496 page views per listing. However, the largest indicator of its fame may be attributed to the rising home values in the region.

By 2021, Lake Tahoe reached a median of $692, 792, which is 34.9 percent higher than last year. A $515, 000 increase was recorded from November last year, and $447, 000 in the same month in 2019.

“South Lake Tahoe shot to the top of our list because it has everything you would dream about in a place to live. It’s a beautiful area, with a small-town vibe and big-city amenities, and of course some of the best year-round outdoor recreation in the country,” Matt Kreamer, Zillow spokesperson, said. “It certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s fairly close to some of the largest population centers in the country, so it’s a natural place for millions to think of first when they’re dreaming about a vacation home or new place to work remotely.”

Some areas in the state were also recognized by the marketplace including Calabasas, Calif. being the most popular small town; Big Bear Lake as the most popular vacation town; and Newport, Ore. as the most famous beach town.
