A Waymo driver on Wednesday accidentally struck a person riding a motorized scooter in san Francisco.
Waymo, a vehicle touted to be able to drive on autonomous mode, had recently been involved in a crash with a scooter in downtown San Francisco. However, the Alphabet-owned company said a person was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.
In a statement released Thursday morning, the company spokesperson said the driver had turned off the autonomous mode and manually drove the vehicle when it crashed into the scooter.
“The autonomous specialist had recently disengaged the vehicle from autonomous mode and was driving in manual mode when the vehicle entered the intersection and made the left turn. After turning, and while still in manual mode, the vehicle came into contact with an individual on a motorized scooter,” the spokesperson said.
There were no serious injuries reported in the incident. The scooter drive removed their vehicle from the scene, while the Waymo vehicle only suffered cosmetic damage.
