A man who drowned in Livermore lake identified

The body of a man who drowned after trying to retrieve an oar in Lake Del Valle on Saturday has been recovered. 

According to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office, the man was Daniel Cullison, 26, of San Jose. 

Police said that Cullison’s family flagged down officers and was told that Cullison went into the water to search for an oar that fell out of the family boat around 3:51 p.m. The family reported he started searching in a cove across the lake from East Beach, outside the guarded area. 

According to witnesses, they saw a man jump into the water and begin struggling before his head dipped underwater. 

Cullison’s body was discovered at 9:21 p.m. and was identified after his next of kin were notified.
