San Francisco, CALIF. — At Chinatown in San Francisco, Lunar New Year celebrations are well under way this weekend and into the following Monday. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrations and related events were put on pause, depriving local businesses in Chinatown of the usual foot traffic that frequents the area during this time.

This year, celebrations restarted, with the hopes of drawing larger crowds and visitors to the area.

Saturday morning, there was a small procession down Grant Avenue, and the local flower market fair occurred as planned. City officials and law enforcement were also present at the celebrations and market fair, in an effort to enforce safety guidelines.

The celebrations were a joint effort between local residents and the City, with the hopes of boosting tourism to the city.
