The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said a man’s body was found by authorities on the Clear Lake shoreline on Thursday, following his disappearance four days ago while he was on a kayaking trip alone.
Dylan Flanagan, the missing man, was last spotted kayaking on Clear Lake on Sunday afternoon. The Sheriff’s Office said his girlfriend reported him missing later on the same day, which started the search conducted by officials.
The 28-year-old San Franciscan was on vacation at a rental close to Clearlake Oaks. He was said to be celebrating his birthday and job promotion.
The Lake County News reported that he went for a solo kayaking trip on Sunday despite the high waves and windy surroundings.
In a statement to The Chronicle on Saturday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office was not able to verify the residence of Flanagan, but according to social media accounts, the man was from San Francisco.
Authorities said that his girlfriend had last contacted him through his mobile after 5 in the afternoon. The man told his girlfriend she was OK.
Later that night, his girlfriend filed a missing report after Flanagan failed to answer any of his calls. No one has also heard from him.
The search team retrieved a dark green kayak the next day. It was found near Widgeon Bay and was said among what the man used the day he went missing.
Authorities said his body was found by a Cal Fire crew on the Clear Lake shoreline at about 10:40 in the morning, close to Olson Road.
Flanagan’s body will undergo an autopsy set in the coming week, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said. Flanagan became the fifth death reported on Clear Lake this year. Four of the deaths happened off the Clearlake Oaks shores, as reported by Lake County News.
