2 mins read

A woman is in grave condition after a violent encounter with thieves in Oakland.

According to investigators, the victim was identified as Jen Angel, owner of a well-loved local bakery, Angel Cakes.

Angel is still in the hospital on Wednesday, more than 48 hours after she was reportedly robbed and dragged by a getaway car.

The Oakland Police Department said the robbery occurred in broad daylight, shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Monday, behind Wells Fargo Bank on Webster Streer.

According to OPD, “Officers located a victim suffering from injuries sustained from the altercation.” Paramedics rushed Angel to a nearby hospital.

Her longtime friend Emily Harris said Angel had severe trauma to her brain.

Her fiancée Ocean Mottley said the pair was two weeks away from their fourth anniversary.

“I’m just glad to be with her. She’s still alive for now. We are having our date night. I came by this morning, told her I loved her… Had to go to work for a little. I’m back now having some time with her,” he said.

Mottley says he is doing his best to stay strong and positive while in the hospital.

“The last thing I said to her when she was conscious on Monday morning was that I love her and gave her a kiss,” he said.

The police investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the OPD Robbery Unit at 510-238-3482.
