One dead in I-880 crash in Oakland

A man has died after his car crashed into a tree along Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland Monday. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 7:40 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, south o Hegenberger Road. 

The man was driving a gray Honda Civic sedan, went off the road, and hit a tree. He died on the scene. 

Authorities say he has yet to be identified. 

The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP at 1-800-835-5247.
