1 min read

A Santa Rosa mother was arrested after her one-year-old toddler overdosed on Tuesday.

According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on Boyd Street at 5:15 a.m. regarding a toddler experiencing a medical emergency.

At the scene, police found a toddler unconscious and not breathing on the ground. One other person was attempting to give the child CPR.

An officer took over the CPR, and shortly after, the toddler began to breathe on her own. The emergency crew arrived and transported the toddler to the hospital.

SRPD’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault team assisted with the investigation and discovered that the child overdosed on fentanyl due to her mother’s negligence.

Police did not release the mother’s name, but she was identified as a 39-year-old Santa Rosa resident. She was arrested for felony child abuse with serious injury.

The mother was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

Police said the child is expected to recover from fentanyl exposure.
