Thirty minutes away from South Lake Tahoe, in the area of the Aspen Creek Tract near Echo summit, a fire broke out which was allegedly started by a woman in her 40s.

According to a Facebook post of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, officials responded to wildland fire reports in the location on Wednesday.  Fire personnel led to a “likely arson suspect” who was later found out to be a 43-year-old woman from Fremont, whom authorities identified as Viola Liu.

She “was dressed in only a bikini top and bottom and was covered in scratches and soot,” deputies said, adding that the suspect did not deny the arson allegations.

The suspected confession “was corroborated by other evidence in the investigation.”

“This is a great example of first responders working together and sharing information to help protect our community,” it said in a post.

The woman was brought to the El Dorado County Jail over arson suspicion, as well as possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She was also booked for resisting peace personnel.

A photo of the area was shared by the sheriff’s office on Facebook. On it, a burned background and tree trunks were seen.

The post, however, did not determine the area destroyed by the blaze. It was not also specified whether it was fully controlled.

SFGate asked the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office for further information regarding the incident and the suspect but no received no response yet.
